This chapter covers both the use of Event Messaging in a PacketCable network and the lawful intercept requirement that is mandatory for service providers.

In a PacketCable 1.x network, Event Messaging can be used to collect accounting information on phone calls. In a PacketCable Multimedia (PCMM) network, Event Messaging can be used to track distributed quality of service (DQoS) resource use for any type of multimedia session. In both cases, PacketCable Event Messaging enables the service provider to accurately bill customers for services.
