Summary

We’ve covered a lot of ground in this chapter. We’ve explored how to check to make sure the Net Library is available, and in the right version, for your application. We’ve discussed how to load, open, and close the Net Library, and what kinds of errors to look out for. And we’ve developed our first network application. While it’s not the most exciting application in the world, it allows us to initialize, open, and close the Net Library. We add more exciting features as we continue through our exploration of the Net Library in the next chapters.

Of course, there’s a lot more to network applications than just initializing, opening, and closing the Net Library. The issues we’ve explored don’t even exist on most desktop operating systems; network connectivity is assumed. We still have quite a bit of ground to cover. But we have built a solid foundation on which to continue.
