John Donaldson is the training director of a medium-sized manufacturing firm in Central Pennsylvania. Yesterday the plant manager, Harold Rexalt, paid him a short visit. It seems that the plant manager had just attended a conference and was told in a conference session that many manufacturing plants were experiencing dramatic results by converting their training departments to performance consulting departments. While Rexalt admitted to Donaldson that he was not quite sure what the difference was between training and performance consulting, he encouraged Donaldson to consider making this change.
