Why It's Worth a Photograph
The Presidio of San Francisco is a 1,500-acre national park site and is part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. For over 200 years, the Presidio was in continuous use as a military post. Designated as a National Historic Landmark District, the Presidio has one of the largest and finest collections of any military architecture in the United States, with over 450 historic buildings. These buildings were primarily constructed by the U.S. Army from the Civil War through the end of World War II and include officers' quarters, barracks, warehouses, and hangars. Beautiful historic buildings, rich cultural landscapes, and years of cultural and natural history — from its geologic foundations millions of years ago to its current role as a refuge for endangered species — combine to make wonderful photo opportunities here.
