Why It's Worth a Photograph

The San Francisco Botanical Garden is located one block due south of the Conservatory of Flowers on Martin Luther King Drive. San Francisco's mild Mediterranean-like climate provides the Botanical Garden the right conditions to grow and conserve plants from all over the world, including plants that are no longer found in their native habitats. There are over 50 acres of landscaped gardens and open spaces, and over 7,000 varieties of plants from around the world, offering endless subjects for a photographer.

Where Can I Get the Best Shot?

The San Francisco Botanical Garden (see A on the map) is a nature photographer's dream, with wonderfully wild exhibits, and varieties of plants and flowers from all over the world. Pick a day when the weather is slightly overcast because the soft, diffused light makes photographing colorful plants and flowers much easier, and there are no harsh shadows to compete with (see figures 24.1 and 24.2).
