So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Subquery scan and subplan
These two types of node are used for shuffling rows around between nodes in some types of UNION and sub-select queries. They have little performance impact and have also become rare in current PostgreSQL versions due to the HashAggregate optimizations.
