The human mind is powerful. Our eyes can see images, but our brain can process them and perceive meaning. Gestalt is a German word meaning form or shape, and it refers to theories that explore human perception and behavior. Though gestalt originated in the field of psychology, the theories presented are equally important in visual communication, as they explain how the brain perceives the messages and images around us as a whole system.
