It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

Although no two programming projects are the same, it’s not unusual to feel a sense of déja vu in the middle of a project. The feeling that you’ve seen a problem before is actually a recognition on your part that you may be able to apply common approaches to solving a wide variety of similar architectural problems. These approaches are called design patterns.
