macOS High Sierra
To install GDAL in macOS, you may use the Homebrew package install we mentioned earlier. Of course, Xcode can also be installed in your computer at this point:
$ brew install proj geos udunits $ brew install gdal2 --with-armadillo --with-complete --with-libkml --with-unsupported
Finally, we need to install the Xquartz System (similar to X11 for Ubuntu). To do so, go to the Xquartz website (https://www.xquartz.org/), download the appropriate DMG file, and install it as you would with any other application for macOS.
