Chapter 4: YAGNI (You Ain’t Gonna Need It)

One key difference between a pet dog and a coyote is a pet dog always gets fed. A coyote has to hunt for feed to survive. Working for one organization is like being a pet. Your owner may be a great owner, but ultimately you must comply to get fed. Much of the work in a vast bureaucracy is meaningless. This work is similar to a dog told to sit before they can eat a meal.

Alternately a coyote has to focus on spending energy on things that do matter to eat. A coyote has a lot in common with someone who makes their own money. If you need to generate revenue, you cannot afford to “sit” and “fetch,” you have to focus on things that get you that next meal.
