For many years I have taught courses on the best practices of Requirements Management with Use Cases, as well as how to apply these techniques using the industry-leading tool—namely, IBM^® Rational^® RequisitePro^®. For each course I teach, I like to recommend a book to my students that they can reference for supplemental material to support the theory. Fortunately, there are several excellent texts on the theory that I highly recommend.

When learning requirements management best practices, such as change management, scoping, prioritization, and traceability, it becomes obvious that the benefits are difficult to achieve without the use of a tool.
