ITU emission codes for the classification of transmissions

The ITU has formulated an internationally recognized code for electromagnetic emissions, which are frequently used on all types of applications for SNG transmissions, including when applying for a telecommunications licence or permission to operate. Transmissions are designated according to their bandwidth and signal classification.

The basic characteristics are as follows:

  • First symbol: type of modulation of the main carrier
  • Second symbol: nature of signal(s) modulating the main carrier
  • Third symbol: type of information to be transmitted

The following two characters are optional:

  • Fourth symbol: details of signal(s)
  • Fifth symbol: nature of multiplexing
