Selfish, Scared and Stupid: Stop Fighting Human Nature And Increase Your Performance, Engagement And Influence
by Dan Gregory, Kieran Flanagan
PART IIIThink scared
Fear can fight against inertia, resistance and imagined safety if we learn how to use its power for good. So let’s pull ourselves together and boldly step into the unknown.
Flip the fear
Fear is an incredibly motivating emotion. The key is to align fears with undesired behaviour and remove them from the actions we wish to encourage.
Link it to the known
Change is innately scary and for good reason. Throughout our history change has not always been friendly to the human race. So how do we change our fear of change? By linking change to things that are comfortable and familiar.
Show them they’re not alone
Human beings are incredibly social animals. We find strength (and comfort and courage) in numbers. Feeling like we are part of a movement around change emboldens us and makes us feel more confident.
