City Performance Dashboards
As cities increasingly focus on higher performance, they’re doing a better job of being transparent about progress. By publishing the targets and goals of an agency, leaders and staff can be more accountable. Traditionally, many publish annual reports in the form of printed books, or PDFs posted online. This continues to be the most common approach. However, more cities are beginning to take advantage of dynamic online performance dashboards that are continuously updated. Some use interfaces directly from source systems; others, from open data; and many enter the data manually. A performance dashboard is a management system that communicates objectives, goals, metrics, initiatives, and tasks. It enables a wide range of stakeholders to measure, monitor, and manage city operations in order to meet desired goals. The following is a list of city and country examples of government performance dashboards. Pay attention to the different styles and options. Perhaps some of the ideas here will inspire you to create your own dashboard.
