Abstract

This chapter focuses on the utilization of drones for managing traffic flow in smart cities, identifying the challenges and limitations of traditional traffic management systems and introducing the concept of drone-based traffic flow management as a potential solution. The study defines smart cities and highlights the importance of efficient traffic flow management in these urban environments. It explores the various applications of drones in traffic flow management, including traffic monitoring, congestion mitigation, and incident response, and discusses the different types of drones and sensor technologies used for traffic flow management. The chapter also examines the challenges of integrating these technologies into existing systems and proposes potential solutions. Furthermore, it discusses the potential for cutting-edge technologies, such as machine learning and artificial intelligence, to be incorporated into drone-based traffic flow management systems. The findings of the study provide valuable insights and guidance for researchers, practitioners, and students in the fields of transportation, ...
