3. Installing and Booting a ZFS Root File System

This chapter describes how to install and boot a ZFS root file system and how to recover from a root pool disk failure. Upgrading and patching ZFS boot environments are also covered.

The capability to install and boot a ZFS root file system is available in the following Solaris releases:

Solaris 10 10/08 release: The ZFS root file system is optional.

OpenSolaris 2008.11: The ZFS root file system is installed by default.
