I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Choosing R for data mining
Although there are many good options to choose from, R is a language and environment that has a short learning curve, is very flexible in nature, and is also very focused on statistical computing, making it great for manipulating, cleaning, summarizing, producing probability statistics, and so on (as well as actually creating visualizations with your data); thus, it's a great choice for the exercises data mining.
In addition, here are a few more reasons to learn and use R for data mining projects:
- R is used by a large number of academic statisticians, so it's a tool that is not going away
- R is pretty much platform independent; what you develop will run almost anywhere
- R has awesome help resources. Just google it ...
