It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

Visualization of averages, measures of variation, counts, percentages, cross-tabbing, and simple correlations help the data scientists in understanding the structure of the data. This is also referred to as data profiling.
Area, temporal, multidimensional, and hierarchical are typical, commonly used, and easily understood formats for data visualization.
