Part 2. SuperCompetent Key 2: Availability

Note

SuperCompetent people are masters of their own schedules.

Your AVAILABILITY is driven by your Activity.

This key acknowledges that you can't be available to everyone all the time.

This key acknowledges you can't be available to everyone all the time, so you need to protect your time to accomplish your desired activities.

You must commit to making the changes necessary to take control of your life. Just as setting valid priorities and goals is important, so is accepting your responsibility in carrying them out. If you don't determine your schedule, other people will do it for you. How many times have you attended a meeting and asked yourself, "Why am I here?"

Determine how to protect your time from everyone who wants a piece of it. Think about ways to eliminate unnecessary meetings. Learn to leverage technological productivity tools, such as GoToMeeting, videoconferencing, and services like Jott.com or dial2do.com, that can lighten your scheduling load, accelerate productivity, and streamline your schedule.
