In June 2010 I attended a music conference, ‘The Great Escape’, held in Brighton, England, with a focus on the artist and live music. The conference featured discussion panels based around the changes in the industry, reflecting on 2009 and looking at what new entrepreneurial business ideas and developments were taking place. There was an emphasis on live music and the effects on the artist and the manager as well as the industry at large. The event kicked off with PRS for Music providing some critical evaluation of the UK music industry, led by their chief economic advisor, Will Page, and his colleague Chris Carey.
