The striated muscles, which are contracting organs, make possible the voluntary movements of the joints that connect the bones. Most muscles are attached to the skeleton at their two extremities, which pull closer together in muscular contractions. The muscle’s fixed anchor point is called the “origin,” while the mobile part, generally a tendon, is called the “insertion.”
