It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

The key to the financial success of a film is how it is distributed and marketed. A movie that has been made and is never distributed will not recoup costs or generate profits. No one needs to see a movie, they have to want to see it. The role of the distributor is to position a film in the marketplace, and maximize all of the possibilities to generate revenue.
Distribution is the process of planning and positioning a movie into the various media platforms where audiences can watch and purchase the film. In the film industry, the primary distributors are the studios, streaming companies, and variety of smaller companies.
