Introduction
In 2021, the actress Scarlett Johansson filed a lawsuit against Walt Disney Studios. The lawsuit, which was settled later in 2021, asserted that Disney had breached Johansson’s contract to star in the film “Black Widow” by simultaneously releasing the film in movie theaters and on the streaming service Disney Plus. This lawsuit incorporates in its details many of the phenomena that have changed the film business in the past decade; phenomena that we summarize below and discuss in detail in this book.
