Chapter 4. A Summary of the Four Models

There are different ways to structure a team, and as I said in chapter 3, no one model is the best model. It all depends on the three factors of team life, especially the team’s skill level.

The Work Group

The first of the four models is the work group. The work group does not fit the classic definition of a team. Therefore, technically we will not call it a team. But if the work is getting done and morale and productivity are good, it is a model that is working for you, so keep it.

Characteristics of the Work Group

  • One-way communication; top down

  • Little work-related communication among group members

  • Manager makes the decisions
