If you are a smoker, you know what society thinks of you. You see the disapproval in nonsmoker’s eyes. You live daily with the inconvenience of huddling in corners where you are “allowed” to smoke. If you are overweight, you are keenly aware of society’s judgments about obesity. You see people looking at your food choices as they nibble on their designer salads, and you hear unkind and derogatory comments about the other “fat” people around them.
