The Domain Name System

Abstract

In this chapter, you will learn how DNS gives the Internet a more user-friendly way to access resources. We’ll see how names are associated with IP addresses and how applications find this information. We will also see how the openness and necessity of DNS makes the whole Internet more vulnerable to attack.

You will learn how DNS servers provide information about local networks, and how this information is distributed and shared on the Internet. We’ll also use show tools to help examine DNS.
