THE CORPORATE CULTURE OF HOW
Robert Gore, an American engineer, scientist, and the founder (in 1958) of W. L. Gore & Associates, a multinational manufacturing company, believed in implementing a team-based, lattice-like organizational structure that encourages personal initiatives and communication among all associates, which was quite a departure from the traditional management structures of the time. The privately held company is best known for creating innovative, technology-driven solutions in four areas: electronics, fabrics (such as Gore-Tex and Elixir guitar strings), industrial, and medical products. Today, W. L. Gore employs more than ten thousand people, who are referred to as “associates,” not employees.
