PREFACE
It was 2:30 a.m. and I was still in the office, frantically trying to fix a broken Excel spreadsheet that was to be presented to a client in six hours. Was this what the job posting had meant by “dynamic” and “fast-paced environment”?
Then, ding! A notification popped up on my laptop. My manager was asking me to hurry up.
Ding! Another message.
Ding!
I sent the updated spreadsheet to my manager. Ten minutes later, he still hadn’t replied.
“Gorick,” said a voice behind me. I sprang off my chair and turned around. It was my manager. “Let’s work through this together,” he said. We sat side by side for another two hours. He took over my laptop, and I looked over his shoulder, desperately trying to keep my eyelids from shutting.
