This chapter deals with the fundamentals of mechanics of beam, plate and shell structures. The asymptotic and axiomatic approaches in structural mechanics are thoroughly discussed. The main strengths and weaknesses, of the above mentioned methodologies, are highlighted. The most known classical models for beam, plate and shell structures are reviewed. Various examples involving different structural elements are proposed.
