In recent years trac microsimulation packages have become an important
modeling tool for various aspects of transportation planning, design, and
operations. A study in 1997 identied over y separate commercially
available trac microsimulation packages (Algers et al., 1997), and there
is no doubt this list has grown substantially since then. Because trac
microsimulation models are becoming more widely used in a variety of
transportation applications, it is important for transportation profession-
als to understand the concepts behind these models and analyze their out-
put statistically.
