It’s been decades since the PC featured an actual on–off switch. It was big and red, like a paddle. You’d reach around the right side of the console and — thwack — the power went off, just like that. Those were good times.
The old on–off switch was so effective that many users mistakenly used it to quit a program. Today’s users are smarter, but so is the on–off switch, which is now a power button. Further, the process of quitting Windows and turning off the PC is now accomplished as a software task. Theoretically, things run smoothly.
