The first — and best — trick you should try when Windows goes awry is a restart. Simple. Effective. Works most of the time.
When a restart fails to cure the PC’s ills, the next instant cure you should try is System Restore. This tool has been around since Windows 98, where it was tucked away in a command-line utility. But, starting with Windows XP, System Restore gained full graphical powers to allow recovery from common goofs, such as wrong settings or improperly installed software or hardware.
