So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Version Compatibility
This third edition of Ubuntu for Non-Geeks was prepared for use with Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron) Desktop edition. Included with this book is a full working copy of that system on one CD, which functions not only as an install CD, but also as a live CD. This means that you can run Ubuntu directly off the CD without so much as touching your hard disk. You can thus give Ubuntu a try before making any hardware commitments. And since we're talking hardware, it is also worth pointing out that running a live CD session gives you the chance to see if Ubuntu works with the hardware you've got.
