8. Importing 3D objects

The easiest way to make a 3D model in Photoshop should be to import one from elsewhere. Photoshop is able to handle a variety of 3D formats, featuring most popular file types – and even including types such as .kmz, used by Google Sketchup, and the 3D printing format .stl.

But importing 3D models isn’t always straightforward. In this chapter we’ll look at how to import and manipulate 3D objects, and we’ll take a look at what happens when importing goes wrong.

Photoshop can import a range of 3D model formats, but by no means all the formats that are available. The list on the right shows the file types Photoshop can currently work with.
