Right to Development
Almost all the rights and entitlements based provisions in the citizens’ regional and national social charters are derived from the more fundamental concept of the right to development. We have, therefore, considered it necessary to include a chapter in this book giving a brief account of the evolution of the right to development, its contents, its policy implications, and the ways and means of implementing it. We have basically put together in this chapter the relevant paras of the reports on the right to development submitted to the Commission on Human Rights by Dr Arjun Sengupta in his capacity as United Nations independent expert on the right to development.
