CHAPTER 20The Trust Imperative

How would you define trust? I'm sure each one of us would have a slightly different answer as trust is multidimensional and comes in different forms. Trust, as a fundamental part of human relationships, plays a central role in many different aspects of our lives. Perhaps trust can be defined as the firm belief or confidence in the reliability and integrity of someone or something. It is a bond that allows people to feel safe, secure, and comfortable in their interactions with others. In our personal lives, trust forms the foundation of strong friendships, intimate relationships, and family dynamics. Trust also extends beyond individual relationships; it encompasses trust in institutions, governments, or businesses. But when this trust is compromised, it can have far-reaching consequences for society. Building trust takes time. It requires honesty, transparency, and accountability from all parties involved. Trust is fragile—once broken, it can be challenging to rebuild.

Part IV of this book focused on time. But layered on top of time is trust. Trust will become the next “luxury market” as well as one of the most valuable currencies of the future. Why? Because just like time, trust is something that is in high demand and short supply. Our future will demand that we choose trust—trust in each other; trust in strategy; trust in our society; trust in progress.
