Not only is life being extended, but quality of life is also continuously being improved through new health and wellness advancements that, taken in combination, could make a significant impact on aging populations. Social connectedness and maintaining health are now seen as an integral part of life extension, both of which are being aided by various applications of AI. AI-powered wearable devices and sensors can continuously track vital signs, physical activity, and other health indicators, enabling early detection of potential issues and allowing for proactive intervention. This not only improves the quality of care but also empowers seniors to take a more active role in managing their own well-being. Robotics can also assist seniors with various tasks, from personal care and mobility support to household chores and meal preparation.
A recent study examined the applications of AI and robotics in eldercare, focusing on their role in promoting independence, monitoring health, and helping and enhancing social interaction. It found that AI tools can help seniors adhere to their medication schedules, provide social solace, and allow them to live independently longer. These robotic assistants can also help alleviate the burden on caregivers and family members.
