Chapter 12. Collaboration

One of the greatest potential opportunities for AR is its use as a medium for communication. Collaborative AR enables multiple users to simultaneously experience an augmented environment. Indeed, AR offers unique opportunities for collaboration: In co-located situations, where multiple users are simultaneously present at the same location, AR can provide additional information concerning real-world artifacts that the users are discussing. For remote collaboration, which connects users who cannot be in the same location, AR can be used to communicate to one user information that another user wishes to share, without disrupting the first user’s experience of the real environment.
