You are likely reading this section because you are a leader of leaders or, let's say, one of the big bosses. Your position is crucial because of the influence you have in designing and shaping the culture in your division or even your entire organisation. Study after study has demonstrated that you get better outcomes when employees feel valued, are treated well, and are working in a happy, healthy and thriving work environment. Yet too many people still feel like wage slaves working in soulless environments, disconnected from their teammates.
Poor leadership is costly. It impacts staff engagement, employee mental health and wellbeing, and individual and collective productivity. If people in the organisation aren't healthy, productive and engaged, organisational performance results will suffer. And it has a ripple effect on how your customers and clients are treated. The adage that ‘happy staff equals happy customers' is true. If employees aren't cared for, they won't care about the outcomes.
