When I went on the O’Reilly platform, I was astonished to find all the books there, plus live events and sandboxes so you could play around with the technology.I’ve been on the O’Reilly platform for more than eight years. I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Reason one – statically typed
One of my personal gripes with JavaScript is that it's dynamically typed. This means that you can use a variable that hasn't been explicitly declared. The knock-on effect here is that you could end up with the following code:
var myInt = 2;myNum++;
Assuming that you intend these two numbers to be the same, you would want to have this trapped at compile time; however, with JavaScript, this will run—although it clearly will not do what you expect.
There are many tools available to help to alleviate this problem, from ESLint to TypeScript. However, this involves you including a step in your build chain to capture what, in a statically-typed language, would simply be a compilation error.
