12Famous Clients and Other People I Cannot Name
I grew up in the sticks. A very, very small town in rural Pennsylvania with a population of about 600 people. I did not encounter famous people.
Ever. No one did.
I read Teen Beat magazine, People, and later Cosmopolitan and Vogue, and could only dream about the glamourous people I saw on those pages and fantasize about the glamorous lives they led.
Which probably did not include going to church on Sunday and getting chased around the yard by my sister holding a hose while I was trying to get my tan on. Or getting one new pair of sneakers every year before the start of the school year.
We went to the movies, didn't watch them on television (highlight of the year). And the closest thing we ever experienced to fame was when the local newspaper photographer snapped a picture of my sister, who was 8 at the time, eating a giant piece of watermelon at the church fair.
That picture, with watermelon juice running down her chin as she was dressed as an Italian immigrant for the annual parade, was the source of many fits of giggles as my mom would bring it out from time to time so we could bask in the glow of her fame.
So, meeting someone famous would probably have put us in a state of stupefaction not seen since we all spent our hard-earned allowance on a pet rock. (Kids, ask your parents about this.)
