この章では、JavaScript組み込みのMathオブジェクトについて解説します。このオブジェクトには、アプリケーションの開発で一般的に必要になる数学的な関数が含まれています（きわめて高度な数値解析をする場合は、サードパーティーのライブラリを探す必要があるでしょう）。
Mathの詳細に入る前に、JavaScriptで数値がどのように処理されるかを思い出してみましょう。整数専用の型があるわけではなく、数値はすべてIEEE 754の64ビット長の浮動小数点数として表されます。このためMathのほとんどの関数に関しては話が単純になり、すべて小数として表現されることになります。任意の実数を完全に表現できるコンピュータは作れませんが、ほとんどのケースではJavaScriptで表現できる数値で十分でしょう。なお、JavaScriptでは複素数はサポートされていません。複素数や通常のプログラミング言語で扱える桁数を超えるような大きな数など、より複雑な構造やアルゴリズムが必要な場合は、まずMath.js（http://mathjs.org/）をチェックしてみてください。
この章で紹介する数学的な概念に関する解説はしませんので、必要に応じて別の資料を参照してください。
この章のコードのコメントでは、≒を使って値がおおよそのものであることを示しています。また、Mathオブジェクトのプロパティを「メソッド」ではなく「関数」と読んでいます。厳密に言えばMathオブジェクトの静的（static）なメソッドですが、数学的な関数と実質的な違いはありません。
