「JavaScriptは表現力が高く、強力な言語である」ことに筆者が気づいたのはもうだいぶ前のことですが、この本を書く過程でその思いはいっそう強くなりました。JavaScriptは「初心者向け」に限定された、「トイ言語」ではありません。ここまで到達した読者の皆さんなら、そのことは十分理解してくださったことと思います。
筆者がこの本を書いた目的は、JavaScriptのすべての機能を徹底的に解説することではありません。これからJavaScriptを開発用のプログラミング言語として利用していくつもりならば、まだ旅は始まったばかりです。この本を土台に、この章で紹介するサイトなどを利用して、さらに知識を積み上げていくことを期待したいと思います†1。

JavaScript、CSS、HTMLのドキュメントに関しては、Mozilla Developer Network（MDN。https://developer.mozilla.org）に並ぶ情報源はないでしょう（多くのページには日本語の翻訳があります）。JavaScriptに関する情報が欲しい場合、筆者はMDNのサイトで検索するか、最後に「 mdn」を付けてウェブを検索します。http://www.w3schools.comも検索結果によく登場しますが、情報が足りないことが多いのであまりおすすめはできません（このサイトのSEOの担当者はかなり優秀だと思いますが）。
