Great Power Comes with Great Responsibility
In 2009, multinational healthcare company Roche acquired the California-based biotech company Genentech. During years of integrating the companies, Roche decided to close its US headquarters based in Nutley, New Jersey. This was a major decision. It wasn’t just its US headquarters, it was a historic site, having developed many of Roche’s most iconic pharmaceutical products. But more important, the decision impacted thousands of people who would be laid off, moved to other positions, or asked to move to other locations. These were thousands of lives—thousands of families—that were being permanently changed, and even uprooted.
