I first want to acknowledge my late father, Mr. C. S. Subramanian, for encouraging me to write a textbook several years ago, when I first joined as faculty in physics. Unfortunately, I could not write it when he was alive. Then, I want to acknowledge all my teachers who taught me Applied Optics, especially my supervisor, Prof. R. S. Sirohi, who himself has written some excellent optics books and introduced holography to me in his applied optics laboratory at IIT Madras. Prof. Sirohi used to train us by asking each research scholar to give a talk on each chapter from Jenkins’ and White’s classical book on Optics, which further increased my interest in writing a book in one of the optics topics.
