You’ve heard this before: “What gets measured gets managed.”
It’s true. But it’s also nonsense.
I see so many marketing measurement-focused presentations start with this famous quote—or its corollary, “You can’t manage what you can’t measure.”
Both quotes are typically used to make a case for measuring everything we can. And both are typically attributed either to business strategy guru Peter Drucker or to process expert W. Edwards Deming.
