8.4. Automated Design Tools

Whether the target database is RDBMS or object-oriented RDBMS, the overall database design activity has to undergo a systematic process called design methodology predominantly spanning conceptual design, logical design and physical design stages, as discussed above. During the early days of its introduction the database design was carried out manually by the experienced and knowledgeable database designers.
