The Common Language Specification (CLS)
The CLS defines a subset of the CTS rules around types, naming conventions, and other language implementation attributes that enable cross language integration. These rules are outlined in Partition I of the Common Language Infrastructure standardization proposal of the European Computer Manufactures Association (ECMA). These are the rules that language designers must adhere to if they want their languages to target the CLR and interact with other languages. This does not mean that languages or your applications that use such languages must adhere to CLS-only constraints.
