7.4 Directions for Design Research

Given the many different types of knowledge and problem-solving involved in the

different types of design activity there are many different directions for design

research.

We believe that incremental exploration from routine design towards

creative design is the best approach. This will allow discovery of most of the

ingredients of a more complex form of design prior to investigating it.
