One of the early innovations that made Android distinct among the various mobile operating systems was its notification tray. Rather than annoy users with modal alert boxes popping up whenever system messages are received, Android neatly organizes these notices into a drop-down list that can be accessed from the upper-left corner of the home screen with the flick of a finger. This approach was so well designed that Apple incorporated the idea into its own iOS mobile operating system.
